Name: Cornell Haynes, Jr.
Born: 2 November 1978
Birthplace: Austin, Texas
Live: St. Louis
Kids: Chanel (1996) and Trey (1999)
His Group: St. Lunatics (Kyjuan, Murphy Lee, City Spud, Slow Down, Ali)

After being born in Texas, Nelly moved to Spain until he was three years old because his father was in the Air Force. Then they moved to St. Louis, where Nelly grew up. His parents struggled financially and split up when he was seven. And as the youngest kid in the neigborhood, he got in a lot of trouble hanging with the big kids. So he moved around to live with other family members because he was bad.
In high school Nelly played baseball, and had all chances to become professional baseball player, because since from childhood he was wery fast, and was most frantic player in team.. He and his friends (Kyjuan, Murphy Lee, Slo Down, City Spud, and Ali) formed a group, The St. Lunatics. Their first song, "Gimmie What You Got" became #1 in St. Louis best hip hop station in 1996. The St. Lunatics decided Nelly would have a better chance if he went solo and Nelly eventually did.
Nelly had the talent and the looks to open the door for the rest of the St. Lunatics. It was a good choice says Ali. "We knew he could get younger girls; the 10-13 year olds who really buy a lot of records. He had the look they like; the face, the body, you know, the 6-pack abs, and that melodic vocal style. So we felt that putting him out there would be our best shot; we're family anyhow, so we don't care who comes first."
After signing a record deal with Universal Records, Nelly would make it big. His goal was to put St. Louis on the map, and after the release of Country Grammar, he couldve made it one of hip hops newest capital cities It started out slow and steady in the beginning, but it broke into a rapid race to the #1 spot on the Billboards LP Chart. In just six weeks, his album was certified double platinum.
In 2002 comes second Nelly's album "Nellyville". Songs like "Hot in Here" and "Dilemma" feat Kelly Rowland (Desteny's Child) become hits. "We take something from everywhere the South, the North, whatever and come up with our unique flow," he says. "It's never been done before. It's all a blessing, fo'sho'." Though Nelly has become a star as a solo artist, he says that he is and always will be a member of the St. Lunatics. You can see Nelly in movie "Snipes" where he plays a hip-hop artist who is kidnapped on the eve of his big album's release. "Snipes isn't a typical hip-hop film where we came up with a story for an excuse to put a bunch of rappers on film and sell a good soundtrack".
In summer of 2003 Nelly P. Daddy and Murphy Lee release soundtrack for "Bad Boys 2". And finaly on November 2003 Nelly release his third album "Da Derrty Versions (The Reinvention)". "Da Derrty Versions" - second release from Nelly's record label "Derrty Entertainment" (first was "Murphy's Law" from Murphy Lee), most of songs is mixtapes of old Nelly's songs. But album have new songs too. First singl from album "Iz U" begin attacking top of the charts on November. And you may have no doubt that this only beginning...
