Clothing Company was established in April of 1997. Company mission is to create a brand not driven by huge marketing budgets and simple designs but one that is driven by an innovative philosophy and a universal appeal. The philosophy is a brand that creates trends and identity, directed to self-motivated, independent visionaries hungry for a new and fresh alternative. Company vision is a brand that sells itself, not a brand that is sold to you. The universal appeal is created by developing products that can relate to the masses, not by developing products and trying to brainwash the masses through repetitious mass marketing campaigns.
Yomi Martin, Co-Founder/CEO, set out on this crusade with original team members Cornell �Nelly� Haynes, Nick Loftis and Ian Kelly while still in college. Starting in St. Louis, MO with tee shirts, the vision was instantly gratified by the urban crowd. VOKAL started by selling shirts and hats in nightclubs, at events, and literally out of the trunk of the car. This old fashion-selling channel created a note worthy buzz and a VOKAL explosion in St. Louis. Just three years after the company was established with $1000 and 20 tee shirts, VOKAL had sold more than 50,000 shirts and was well on its way. As Yomi Martin sees it, the urban consumer was ready for a brand with meaning and not just a label. VOKAL is different because it represents something besides making money; VOKAL represents a passion for truth, excellence, bravery, leadership and understanding.
Well how did Nelly get involved? Nelly has been involved since day one with VOKAL. Yomi Martin and Nelly lived together and collectively came up with the idea 3 years prior to his multi-platinum record debut �Country Grammar� that hit stores in June 2000. �Yomi did the clothes I made the music, it turned out to be a perfect match!� Nelly insists. The combination of a hugely successful Nelly and the tenacity of the VOKAL team to create and sell a real brand in an over saturated urban clothing industry has turned out to be just what Nelly and Yomi thought it would be sitting together 6 years ago.
VOKAL Clothing Company is today, what it was 6 years ago. The brand still does what it originally sought out to do. That is to create a company that prides itself on developing products that speak for themselves. VOKAL does not rely on the celebrity endorsement from Nelly or any of the other top artists, athletes and entertainers that wear the label. Nelly is the VOKAL spokesperson now as he was prior to his record deal when VOKAL was selling shirts out the trunk of the car in St. Louis.

VOKAL creates sportswear for unique, self-motivated, street savvy people who are not afraid of expressing themselves. The concept tells the story. VOKAL, a word derived from �vocal� meaning communication using a voice. VOKAL is communicating without saying a word. Actions speak louder then words. So without spending a huge amount on HYPE, we are able to communicate equally through our products. Company products have great colors, innovative designs, true comfort, tested durability and trend setting style at a time when there is much need to make a difference in the cluttered, over-hyped, same style different brand name market of today.
